The end of Planet Fidhle

So here I am again. This is sadly the last programme in the series. After many years, the Fidhle tribe is moving on from its settlement here on the island of Taransay. This is not being spoken about openly in the tribe, but various signs and symbols are evident in their dealings with each other.
Ceremonial goblets have been issued to each member of the tribe. An archive of some of the tribal wisdom – in terms of the TEWNS they have played and the food, cooked by elders Isobel and Catherine – is being ritually offered to all tribal members in exchange for monetary coinage.
Kenny, one of the elders, has also written a symphonic scale work which attempts to encapsulate the shared experience of the whole tribal community over the years.
In other respects, this year is similar to others. The wise ones (called TEWTORS) who hold the knowledge and wisdom of the TEWNS, have continued to pass on this wisdom to the tribe at set times called CLASS-EZ. The younger tribal members have been encouraged to create new wisdom, and a ceremonial playing of these TEWNS by PATTSEE led to Robbie Leask being held up high in ritual celebration as the WIN-NER.
There have also been, as in previous years, intense gatherings called SESH-UNS, where the tribal members share their collective wisdom, assisted by ceremonial concoctions prepared by RO-OZ and her herbal acolytes.
But the question hanging over the island community is – what will happen to the elders of the tribe: DOWLANN – the one on a chair, WOOODEE – the one with a parcel, WILLY MAACREE – the one with a boat and KENNEE – the great one (assisted by the newer elders, Murdo, Alastair and Willie2)
How will they manage their time when the tribe disperses for the last time? Have they secretly bought the island to start a new tribe?
I can exclusively reveal, following extensive hacking of their phones, that they are to buy up BSkyB – which they are renaming BStornowayB, and which will continue the tribal traditions by transmitting FIDHLE TEWNS 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Go easy on the luggage.

Hi all,
Getting close now.
Just hope the fabulous weather we are having at the moment
continues through to July.We are fully booked and some more.
Here are the Taransay Ten Commandments for the benefit of you all.
1-The catering staff would like to know if there are any vegetarians coming to
Taransay.email asap to dolanmorrison@tiscali.co.uk if not already done so.
2-The treasurer Mr Wood has intimated that anybody willing to pay prior to
arrival can do so.This minimises the adminisration and leg work on

3-Due to the thursday night event dragging on too late it has been suggested
that thursday night will be Dance only at 8pm.
So the typical evening events will be something like:
Tuesday Night-Highland Games and Golf Tournament.
Wednesday Night-Tune Writing Competition(all students are encouraged to write a
tune if possible), Cabaret and Gaelic Choir.
Thursday night-Dance
Friday Night-Concert in Tarbert.
Any further suggestions are very welcome.
4-The boatman Capitan Macrae has asked if we could keep luggage to a minimum.

5-Due to there being limited catering on the Saturday and Sunday prior to the
event it is
recommended that you bring some food with you for saturday evening and sunday.
6-The bar will be charging £1.00 per drink throughout the week.
No slate im afraid.
7-No doubt our superstars will have CDs for sale.There will also be various
merchandising for sale so it is advisable to take some cash if at all
interested.
8-Hopefully Mrs Sandra Mackerron will be with us.Gaelic choir rehearsals are
daily just before the evening meal.Compulsory.
9-Classes will start asap on Monday morning as soon as we get a tutor on to the
island.With any luck we may have a tutor arriving sunday.
10-There are three classes per day (9.30,11.00,14.00) with the final period
15.30 a free period for rehearsal,etc.
Please note times are approximate.
Main points are really go easy on the luggage and remember some food for the
Saturday night and Sunday.
I hope you all have a wonderful time on Taransay and the commitee look forward
to meeting you all on the 18th.

Dear all,

For all those going to Taransay and who fancy the latest in hip and trendy on Taransay this year! This year’s style reflects the more back to basics style in French Blue and corrected spelling. The Taransay Retailers Association (TRA) have endeavoured to keep pricing low however we have had to include some flexibility for rising costs before the ordering deadline. However, the TRA promise to passing any profits back to the bar.

If you wish to partake of the latest of “Taransay Fashion” this year then check out these original styled Taransay Merchanise (attached.) Remember these will not be available in any shops and will not be available for sale on the Island. Oh no! We are operating a strictly pre-order system for you this year with the added benefits of merchandise being correct in your ordered size!

To order, simply see the attached documents and return to me by the deadline Friday 27th May 2011. Also, if you know anybody not on the mailing list or those who do not have e-mail can you make sure that this gets to everybody. Particularly those who are not always on-line!

Finally, apologies if anybody received the e-mail with the full-size photos. I cancelled it when I realised I hadn’t resized the photos to a more manageable size. Any problems then give me a bell!
