The Hebridean Fiddle Workshop 2012

The Hebridean Fiddle Workshop
16th – 20th July
Situated in the village of Tarbert on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland the Hebridean Fiddle Workshop provides a unique opportunity for fiddle players.
Learn traditional Scottish music and develop a personal style in a relaxed, authentic setting from some of the foremost exponents of Scottish fiddle music.
The course will focus on local repertoire, playing techniques and the development of personal interpretation and style. Places are available for Intermediate and Advanced players aged 16 and over.
The Hebridean Fiddle Workshop seeks to build on the great success of the renowned Taransay Fiddle Camp.
We feel that the village of Tarbert is the perfect location to retain the same ethos of the relaxed, natural but dedicated tuition for which the Taransay course became rightly famous, while providing increased accommodation options and local amenities. And of course there will be ample opportunities to unwind in the evening with a tune or two!
And it’s not just music and craic: a range of activities programmed by local businesses will be made available to course participants.
Tarbert has come into it’s own in recent years as a popular destination for holiday-makers in the outer hebrides: Outdoor activities, excellent accommodation, food and drink in the Harris Hotel and Hotel Hebrides surrounded by a landscape and coastline of stunning natural beauty. It has well served transport links by air and ferry to nearby Stornoway and direct ferry from the Uig on the Isle of Skye.
Further information including tutor roster, pricing and accommodation options to be announced when booking opens on the 5th of January.
Although booking does not open until the 5th of January if you have any queries or are interested please drop us a line at: hebfiddle@gmail.com so we can keep you informed.

Gold Medal for Catriona.

Royal National Mod Gold Medal, Hebrides News

The highly coveted Mod gold medals have been won by two islanders after a series of nerve wrecking competitions over two days.

Catriona Watt of Stornoway gained the highest points and won the ladies Gold Medal in today’s event.

The 26-year-old student at Strathclyde University says it was a tough contest and she still can’t believe she won.
